Subsidies available for families

Playschool monthly fee is $128.75 per month, from September until June. There are two sources of funding available to families and we encourage all families to inquire further.

Alberta Child Care Subsidy (covers $125 per month if approved)

In September 2021, the Alberta Government rolled out the Alberta Child Care Subsidy where parents with children attending a preschool program with an income of $89,999 or less per year could be eligible for $125/month.  Starting in January of 2022, the annual income changed to $180,000; meaning any family with income less than that, could qualify for up to $125 per month in preschool fees.

Eligible families can apply for child care subsidies if they have children age 0 to Grade 6 enrolled in a:

  • licensed facility-based program (daycare, out-of-school care and preschool)

  • family day home program overseen by a licensed family day home agency

Families must make less than an annual income of $180 000 and both parents must be working or looking for work.

Child Care Affordability (all families qualify for $75 per month)

Also in January of 2022, the Federal and Provincial Governments came to an agreement to reduce daycare and playschool fees to ~$10 a day by 2026.  To meet this deadline, the playschool has been instructed to reduce their monthly fees by $75 per child, starting January 1st of 2022.  This means that all families will pay $75 less per month going forward.  Families do not need to apply for this funding, and it will be automatically applied to the monthly program fee.

Because the playschool has different programming to meet the needs of the student, and different fees based on this programming, some families may be eligible for both subsidy and the affordability funding.  It has been explained to me that in this situation, families would receive subsidies first, then the affordability fee reduction.

More on the Affordability funding can be found here:

Please keep in mind, these guidelines and funding amounts may continue to change as the government moves to affordable childcare.  As we get closer to September, up to date information will be shared with families.
